Long Day--Lots of Fun
We had a lot of fun watching all four games in the "second" round of the tournament, starting at 12:40pm. Even though our teams were in different cities, it was enjoyable to be in the best atmosphere of college athletics. Since beer wasn't available at these NCAA events, rowdy drunks were not a concern, although there was quite a bit of that happening outside, especially on St. Patrick's Day! We left Candlelight: Tribute to Fleetwood Mac around midnight with a few minutes left in the last game, which was pretty much decided by then. "Nosebleed" tix (7 rows from the top) were what we had, as we were part of the early lottery, but we learned that better seats were available at lower prices last minute from StubHub. Despite sitting high up, the Verizon Center was small enough for us to comfortably view the game without needing binoculars. There was a good selection of food and drinks at the Verizon Center if you preferred to eat during the game rather than at nearby restaurants. My main issue was with the seats: the drink holders on either side made it uncomfortable to sit straight down, so I had to slide my butt back after sitting at the front of the seat. The tight spacing between rows and the steep angle made it a bit precarious with the butt-slide maneuver. The guy behind us was quite tall, so his knees were constantly in the back of my husband's head. Lastly, the cup holders were not suitable for keeping upright either the $6 cups of soda or the 20oz bottles of soda/water sold at the venue, which was quite annoying. Perhaps this is just a characteristic of cheaper seats, and the lower levels might offer a better experience.
